Narmada Bachao Andolan condemns brutal attack on Jamia Millia students and the institution.*

The news and reports on the police atrocities against the students of Jamia Millia who were declared offenders and attacked brutally only because they protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens is shocking, disturbing and worth condemning with all strength and assertion. The act is not only anti-democratic but also demonic.

It is cowardice on the part of Modi-Shah government that controls and manages the police administration in Delhi to disallow any student protest of difference of viewpoint experienced. Such intolerance is much more unacceptable when the protest was peaceful and the whole issue of CA Act and NRC is of such great importance that citizens must be free to express their opinions.

The unprecedented act of police firing at the students and using tear gas is extremely disturbing and highlights the grave threat that educational institutions across the country are facing. Police must immediately stop attacking students and must be held accountable for using force and weapons on students.

As protests spread across other university campuses of the nation, we stand in complete solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia and AMU for putting up a brave and resilient fight against this unconstitutional act. The struggle has only begun and we hope that the whole country will stand by these students who are leading the resistance against this state-sponsored structural violence and a brazen attempt to silence the voice of dissent.
